Gary K. Markowitz, Founder and President

Mr. Markowitz is an energy/facilities cost containment consultant and lighting designer of national reputation with 28 +years of experience. He has successfully implemented energy management and lighting design programs for the United States government, private industry, religious institutions, and for the commercial, retail, and residential sectors. By applying non-traditional methodologies to complex energy and lighting challenges, the results for his clients with results far exceeding conventional expectations.

Prior to founding Kilojolts Consulting Group, Mr. Markowitz was Corporate Energy Manager and Lighting Director for Star Markets Company in Cambridge, MA. At Star, he designed and implemented an energy management program for the 53-store supermarket chain that dramatically reduced the company's energy resource costs by more than $1 million in just 18 months.

Mr. Markowitz is the former Energy Administrator/Facilities Engineer for the Raytheon Company's Electronic Systems Division, where he worked for 13 years. He guided Raytheon and Star Markets through the energy deregulation process, successfully negotiating highly favorable electricity and gas supply contracts

Mr. Markowitz graduated from Clark University, Worcester, MA, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology & Society. He was awarded the Edison Award for excellence in lighting design in 1986 and the Federal Energy Efficiency Award from the United States Department of Energy in 1988, both while employed at Raytheon.

Nicholas Hill, CEM
Senior Consultant

Nicholas Hill has more than 20 years of experience in the energy management field, serving in a variety of positions with consulting firms and energy service companies. He has extensive experience in technical and financial analysis, lighting design, construction management, program development, and training.

During his career, Nick has focused on providing clients with customized solutions that address energy management, facility maintenance, and financial needs and goals. He has implemented solutions for firms such as Bank of America, CarrAmerica Reality Corporation, the State of New York, General Electric, Green Mountain Power, Proctor and Gamble, and IBM

Nick is a Certified Energy Manager and a member of the Association of Energy Engineers and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wesleyan University. He has also had extensive training in energy systems, safety and design.

Ted Plaskonos
Software Developer

Ted Plaskonos is a leading software developer for energy-related industries and has worked with all facets of the energy market, from utilities and suppliers to customers and consultants. As the lead developer of EnerCop™, Kilojolts Consulting Group's proprietary energy accounting and benchmarking software, Mr. Plaskonos has created a user-friendly system targeted specifically to the supermarket and food service industries.

Scott Greenbaum, PE, CEM
Senior Consultant

Scott has more than has twenty five years of experience in all aspects of HVAC and energy project pre-development, concept design, detail design, installation, and operations. He was a Corporate Energy Manager for Related Management (Section 8 Properties) and Senior Campus Living (Erickson Retirement Communities) implementing energy efficiency programs, applying for utility rebates, and negotiating utility agreements. Scott was also the mechanical/electrical specification writer for DMJM+HARRIS in Boston.

His construction management experience includes shop drawing review, Requests for Information, final punch out, and commissioning of installations. He has developed alternative energy projects, participated in demand side management and rebate programs, performed energy accounting, developed energy project design documentation, provided engineering contracting services, and negotiated a number of utility purchasing agreements for natural gas, oil, steam, chilled water and electricity.

Scott received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the US Merchant Marine Academy and earned a Master’s degree in Energy Technology from New York University. He is a Professional Engineer, a Certified Energy Manager, and a Green Building Engineer, and is a member of ASHRAE and AEE.

Lori Manton
Data Specialist

Lori Manton has more than 17 years of experience in office administration and data management. For Kilojolts, Ms. Manton is responsible for database development, data entry, and serves as a liaison to the many utility companies with which Kilojolts works.
